Today, I logged in into my wp-admin dashboard of my blog and I was quiet surprised that I have 3 posts draft waiting to be finished and published. I wonder how long it’s been since my last post and I bet that it was around 3 months ago. How is it going with my life? Let’s find out!

Well, I have been busy lately with univ work but however the amount of workload I’ve received is still in reasonable amount though I have to work extra hours and nights coz all of the assignment is done individually (my ego and my own decision). Entering the week 11, I only have roughly 2 weeks before I finish this semester and hopefully everything goes accordingly and I’ll be graduating by the end of the year. My exams schedule is also official and it’s gonna be Information Retrieval (IR) exam which is on 26 October 2009; the next exam follows within 2 days time interval, 28 October 2009, and it’s gonna be Internet and Intranet Document Engineering (IIDE); and the last exam is roughly a week after which gives me some spare time to having it prepared, and it is Computer and Internet Forensics (CIF). The study period is going to end on 16 October 2009 which gives the student a week study and preparation period (SWOT VAC).

After finishing all the exams, I still have an IELTS test going on which is gonna be on 7 November 2009 and the bad news is I haven’t done any preparation so far and will do soon. What I’ve done the most is reading more articles and hoping that my general knowlegde expands (I know that I might sound a little bit naive, but I do hope so) which in the sense will help me in Speaking part. I do hope that I can get a band of 7 the first attempt but then I am not really sure about that, and I am planning to have a second attempt when I am going back to Jakarta and it’s gonna be on 21 November 2009. Yes, I am going back to Jakarta on 14 November 2009 and planning to spend some quality time there as I will be having my BiNus University graduation (the date of which is not yet known, what a shame for such University). I also will be preparing some legal documents for my TR/PR application and hopefully everything is ready just before I am going back to Melbourne.

It comes across my mind to have the third attempt on IELTS test just before I am going back to Melbourne on 5 December 2009 (FYI, I am going back to Melbourne on 7 December 2009) but I am still considering about this coz the payment fee for IELTS test is no longer as cheap as back in two years ago. Well, let’s see as I havent carefully think about this.

Anyway, that’s roughly the series of activities I’ve planned to do within the next 2-3 months. I really hope that my study is going well coz at this point I am really tired of studying and learning process and I have enough I guess.

One of the reasons for my absence in blogging is because my other fellows who used to be blogging (attention to Pxang and Kurniady) are on absence as well. I noticed that yesteday Pxang has started his blogging activity again and have the new blog running on blogspot.com (visit his at http://pisankblog.blogpsot.com), what about the others? Kurniady? hahaha…I know that He is very busy with the work in Google though

Well, I guess that’s all I have to write in this entry and have to think to finish the other drafts as well. I think I need to start being active to update my blog as it’s again hopefully help me in writing part for IELTS test (I dont wanna sound naive but it’s true).

Adios and Cheers from Melbourne….

The night before Maryanto went back to Singapore, we were playing words. There were six of us (I guess) who joined this conversation and I guess all of us were participating that night throwing quotes. In this entry I try to compile all of them into one long dictionary, so that later in the future if someone wants to refer to these quotes they are able to do so. Here it goes, enjoy.

Last week, I celebrated my 22nd Birthday. It was a total surprise, I have no idea at all, and a lot of funny things happened that day. This post will tell the story about what happened on 17/07/2009 and 18/07/2009. I’ll try to describe the story using section; as you guys read a bold heading across the entry that means another scene which separates the previous section to the next. The story is somehow going to be long enough, so you guys can grab a snack while reading the whole entry. I hope you guys enjoy the story and put some comments if necessary.

17-07-2009 (11.00 PM)

=================

It was the treat time. Cika completely lost the bet coz the final mark of Web Server and Web Technology of the four of us was less than hers. In my opinion this bet was kinda silly and aimed for silly people just like us; but anyway, I didn’t care as long as I got treated from her and my menu for that night was “Belgian Waffle” (topped with Banana and some hot chocolate). It is my favourite menu everytime I come to Max Brenner. So, we had agreed to come at around 11.00 PM and my plan was to spend that night with them (Maryanto, Cika, Onee, Dennis, and Glen) by having a little chit-chat just before my Birthday. I was dissapointed because by the time I arrived they didn’t have any spirits at all (just like they were going to die…no offense but it was true). I asked them why, but none of them giving me a satisfying answer. Again, I did’t care too much coz I was still aiming for Belgian Waffle so that other thing couldn’t distract me much. I took couple of shots of Maryanto for the scrapbook project (this is gonna be another story on another entry). There was no chit-chat at all there in my opinion and we were there for just around 15-20 minutes or so and Onee couldn’t stay long coz she needed to catch the train. So, Onee was going home and the rest was going home as well just after we took couples of shots (again they were for Mary’s scrapbook) in front of the state library.

18-07-2009 (00.00 AM to Midnight)

=============================

At a second I thought I would be doomed that night, it was my birthday and everyone was going home and I was lonely and spending the rest of the night with my housemates. Glen told me he was going to my apartment to grab some files probably movies or games, so I waited for him to get ready in front of this apartment building. That night was damn cold with the wind blew at a moderate rate. While waiting for him, I took out my camera and produced some couple night shots and the result was very satisfying and I love all the photos that were taken that night; they are just beautiful though the noise level is somehow high (ISO 1600). Around 15 minutes or so, He was ready and We went to my apartment while having a very wierd chit-chat that night talking about Harry Potter the latest movie and some other stuffs. When I was just in front of the state library, Evan (my housemate) called me and asking where was I. This was the time when I noticed something fishy was going on. If you wanna know part of the phone conversations, I outline them just below (I just couldn’t remember the exact words but it is 90% similar. Anyway it is in Indonesia).

Evan: Pet, dimana loe?

Peter: Hah??

Emangnya loe sendiri darimana? bukan-nya loe jg udagh pulang tadi?

Evan: hah?

If you read the above conversation, you’ll know how fishy it sounds. Evan was home just before I went to Max B; when I went to Max B, he also went to his friends’ house and by the time he came back home, no one was there. That time I didn’t care much and still thinking “damn, I am gonna be doomed tonight”, but anyway I got a bottle of wine I just bought after I finished working so my plan was “Playing Ragnarok Online with the housemates and Enjoying the wine for celebrating my birthday”. I realized it was totally a very PATHETIC idea and silly of me.

18-07-2009 (~ 00.30 AM)

====================

Me and Glen arrived at my apartment. Again, I sighed…(lolz, becoz I was doomed). When I entered my apartment, it was very dark coz all the lights were turned off and there was a Birthday cake on the dining table. It was a total blast and didn’t care enough who brought me this cake but seconds later everyone was there including Onee (I thought she was going home coz she through the station already) and I was kinda blown away. Onee, Cika, Dennis, Glen, Yoko, Evan, Indrie and her sista, Edwald, Indra, and Maryanto was there, couldn’t say a word and I could throw away my silly idea of spending the night by playing RO and having a glass of wine.

18-07-2009 (00.30 AM till drop)

=========================

The birthday cake is blackforest and everyone told me to make a wish before slicing it up. My wishes aree…..they are secret though xD. I sliced the cake and giving the 1st special slice to Onee for some reasons . I think the slices were just enough for everyone and I opened up the wine for everyone. Evan took couple of pictures of us altogether; again it was fun and it was a blast. The surprise didn’t stop there, they had another plan which to make me up so that I looked like Joker….this is very funny, I just couldn’t resist what they had done to me…I was looking the pictures from Evan’s camera, I was so ugly and thanks everyone for making me looked like that xD. I probably won’t upload the photos anyway…

Cika, Onee, Indrie and her sista decided to go home earlier than the rest of my friends,,,I thought they were having speaking exam the next day CMIIW. The make up was just wet anyway and I should get rid of them or otherwise the make up itself would be all over my bed that night. It took me 3 showers to actually get rid of the make up. The boys were playing magic with Yoko, while I was busy replying all the wishes from my facebook account.

Again, I’d like to thank everyone for taking part of throwing this surprise b’day for me. Last year, I was celebrating my birthday in Sydney; Sylvia, Enrico, and My sister Inge was also throwing me a surprise b’day; some of the pictures could be found here. Anyway, I’d also like to thank everyone for the b’day wishes and it wasn’t that meaningful without the wishes. Some of the photos from this 22nd B’Day surprise are still being processed because 90% are over exposed probably it’ll take some time to fix though.This is the end of this entry and hopefully whoever reads my story will enjoy it anyway; I know it’s a long story but writing this entry gives all the memory back again.

Today, the result for semester 1 is released for all RMIT students including my program: Master of Computing (MC062). The result is as expected, except for 1 subject which I predicted to get “CREDIT (CR)” because I was blown away by the final exam. Previous semester (and now I can officially as my previous semester) I took four subjects, which were as following:

Web Server and Web Technology (WSWT)

Internet Industry Project (IIP)

Web Services

Document Markup Language (DML)

In this entry, I’ll make a recap on how I prepared the exam and the result I got for each of the subject. FYI, I have no exam for IIP (I won’t discuss this subject in this entry), so the marking is based on the project I’ve done for the whole semester.

Let’s start with DML. The exam format has been predicted coz my “head tutor” had told us merely the breakdown of the sections. The first section is multiple choice and the rest of the sections were “coding” type of questions. For the coding part I’ve prepared myself by doing a lot of exercise from the past exam or question from the internet. Basically what I’ve done is creating the schema for a given XML (XSD & DTD), creating a stylesheet to produce a particular result in the form of HTML from a particular XML, and practicing some xquery syntax and stuffs. I spent roughly “three days” from 1 o’clock till 9 o’clock in the evening to study in the computer lab; it was very tiring and I kinda forced myself a lil bit too hard for this. The reason being was 90% of the exam was “coding”, so the need to memorize some syntax is necessary because they don’t provide the documentation for us to see during the exam. I got “HD” for this subject. In my opinion, this subject is pretty easy and the assignment is a bit “too easy”. The first assignment can be done in 1 hour time and the second assignment can be done in roughly 6 hours (which was my working time) after they release it. The second assignment took longer because that time, I haven’t got basic understanding about stylesheet and stuff; so”Google” is my only best friend.

The second exam was WSWT. This exam was the hardest ever exam I have taken in my life. The exam format was simple: 50 multiple choice questions and some simple short answer questions for the second part. It seems easy but it was possible for a question to have multiple answers as well and for each question you answer wrong, you’ll have a penalty of 1 mark deduction. This was the trick and the idea was for us not to guess a random answer. I feared a lot already just before the exam. My mom said “I lose already before I’m actually go to the battle field”. The result was only “DI”, which is unexpected because I’ve predicted that I’ll get “CR” for this subject. I screwed the exam pretty bad and I know it by the time I left the exam room. The preparation was not good as well because the night before the actually exam I still levelled my creator in Ragnarok Online. I knew how screw this exam was going to be. But, getting “DI” is pleasently satisfying for me.

The last exam was Web Services. This exam was the last one for me and most of my friends had finished their exam earlier, so I’m kinda lazy already with the last but considering that my housemate, Evan, said that “his previous exam was pretty hard” I need to do enough preparation so that the result was not that bad. 3 days was enough because most of the stuffs was about memorizing and I only needed to gain a little understanding before I can expand it in the actually exam. For this exam, I got a lot of help from my friends explaining different concepts and ideas that might come up in the exam. Thanks to Maryanto for his explanation about “2-tier architecture” and Dennis & Evan for explanation about “Encryption and Web Security stuffs”. By the time I walked out from the exam room, I knew that 90% of the questions I got them correct and the rest are just two or three things which I was not sure about. The last day just before the exam, we studied together along with Glen and Ryan, pretty much we talked about other stuffs instead of discussing what might come up in the exam. “HD” is a sweet ending for this subject along with AUD $600 prize we (the team consists of me, Ryan, and Glen) got for presenting “the best Architecture solution” for the second assignment.

This semester exam was bitter sweet. For me there were sadness, madness, and happiness as well. I was sad because I didn’t do well in WSWT exam, I was mad because I kept on complaning why WSWT exam format should be like that, and I was happy because I’ve done extremely good in the other two exams beside WSWT. I couldn’t stop thanking God for His grace and bless so that this semester was done with a good closing at the end. I also couldn’t stop thanking my family and friends for all the supports during the exam period; it was a tight and hard but it didn’t stop me ever to stop working and pushing even more harder.

In the end, cheers to all of us. Let’s celebrate the day waiting for more surprises next semester.

Warm regards,

The last couple of weeks in case you happened to read or hear from the news, the world is now facing a global pandemic of swine flu. It is shocking and terrifying because until now there is no cure to this disease just yet. The flu is known to be originated from Mexico, but in my opinion the validity of this fact has not been confirmed as the disease is spreading too fast in reality. Australia is also facing the reality that large numbers of people who reside here have been infected with this disease. How is it growing? Is it true that now Australia is dangerous country to visit? or this is just a rumour? I’m no expert at describing how the situation is really happening here but I’ll try to share what I’ve read and heard from our local news, in case that there is a mistake please do correct it by posting your comment.

Singapore is the first country to give a travel warning to its citizen for coming to Australia. This fact states that it is already not safe to travel to Australia. I don’t what really happens in another state of Australia, but in Victoria the case is growing quiet fastly. Another states such as New South Wales (NSW), Brisbane, etc once gave a warning not to travel to any part of Victoria. At this point, I don’t have any idea whether it is really safe to travel to Victoria, however if you decide to travel to Australia you just need to believe nothing bad is going to happen; you don’t have to be panicking. I can’t deny the fact that thousands of people are now infected and several deaths caused by this swine flu have been confirmed. In my opinion, you don’t to worry and you can still enjoy your winter holiday here in Victoria.

You guys, probably wondering what on earth I am daring to say this. Well, again I am no expert to any of this medical thing; one thing for sure that I know ’swine flu’ is just another type of flu just like ‘bird flu’ (well yeah, logically speaking the name says what the disease is or otherwise the name wouldn’t be flu). I know that you guys roughly know what to do in order not to get caught in flu.

Stay healthy all the time!

Some of us are in holiday or semester break period, the temptation not to sleep early is very strong coz usually we got no time to do activity beyond the normal sleeping time, some of us have lecture/school in the morning or afternoon; but now we do have more time. Sleeping “in the morning” could affect our immunity system to flu, we are more susceptible to flu that way. To prevent such thing to happen, drinking Vitamin C beverages surely help (I am no expert but experience does not lie). Sleep earlier whenever possible. To those in winter season, check your daily outfit; I don’t think tripel-ing your clothes at this period would do you any harm rather than getting yourself cold.

The point is in my opinion is safe to travel to Australia regarding the fact as I have mentioned above (thousands are infected and couples death are confirmed). You have to stay alert and stay healthly all the time! You know what to do, the same thing here. People don’t need to worry; the world is suffering and better yet medical scientists are working to find “a perfect cure” to this disease and it’s about time before they find it out.

p.s: in case you want to confirm what I’ve written please do post a comment and I’d gladly make necessary changes

Happy Holiday and Cheerz from Melbourne,,,

Over the past two months I’ve been busy, packed, and loaded with academic stuffs. Two major projects of Web Service and Internet Industry Project (IIP) has drawn most of my time. The blogging activity should stop temporarily but now as I’m free, I’ll be writing and sharing more personal stories. I won’t be writing long in this entry coz apparently I lose my sense of writing so that I need to gather them back. As you read along this entry, you’ll find out roughly what has been happening to my personal life. So, let’s ride!

As I have mentioned earlier this semester I took Web Services and IIP; unexpectedly these two courses were giving me a lot of troubles and headaches.

The second assignment of Web Services is a group assignment. To complete this assignment I had decided to team up with Ryan and Glen. Honestly, at the very beginning it came accross my mind to finish this assignment by myself considering that it will be faster for me to work alone but then out of nowhere I finally dropped that silly idea when Ryan asked me to team up with him and I agreed to accept his offer. Glen however had asked me 1st to be one team with him, so it will be impossible to drop him and taking Ryan only instead. Luckily the maximum number of students allowed within one group is 3 and we all can fit in one team. The preliminary meeting was not producing a very good result since the requirement was very unclear however, we manage to start building the 1st project. The assignment itself was about building an architecture that requires the use of “Web Services” along the way to automate most of the business processes that happen in the given study case.

Anyway, I won’t go any further with technical details as probably you guys will get bored. There were couple of moments where I felt so dissapointed with the team; it’s not because they couldn’t finish the jobs but because they sometimes turned up late in the meeting. I know that they were feeling dissapointed to me as well because couple of things that I’ve done; despites of all the conflicts and internal feelings we managed to pull things together until the very end which was the demo. The demo was pretty screwed since we were facing couple of errors (over again!) but then we satistfy with the result because we win the prize of $AUD 600. This prize is awarded to the team who can present the best architecture design to the given study case. The decision to use JAVA and PHP was a correct decision in my opinion because it really shows the use of Web Services so that two different application written on top of two different programming languages can talk to each other. The prize money is a nice closing for this subject.

IIP is another different story; it is a project course in which you spend the whole semester doing a single project without having to bother with assignments and exam. This subject also will be used to complete my thesis for “Sarjana Komputer” (S.Kom). They story behind it on how BiNus University has decided to use IIP as our thesis is unknown and I have no attention at all to find out Anyway, the project we took for this project is iPhone application development. The application is inteded for RMIT Computer Science and Information Technology (CSIT) student to manage their personal timetable within their iPhone. 30 June 2009, we were presenting this project to other people in the class and manage to pull good impression from some people. Although, there are still a lot of rooms for improvement but I believe what we have done for iPhone project development in RMIT is a breakthrough. In the next post, I’ll present you guys with the actual screenshot of our application since right now I am still selecting and compiling the images.

So, this is the end for this entry. I’ll be writing more soon since I also still in holiday period and I’ll share more stories with you guys and I really appreciate it if you guys put comments I also wanna thanks Ryan Seet and Glen Michael Kurniawan for a nice job that we have done for “Web Services”, we definitely rocked. Dennis Andika Suryawijaya and Glen Michael Kurniawan (again!) for the very nice job we produce in IIP creating those application. So, heaps of thank to my teams and sorry for the mistakes I’ve done

the story will continue, stay tuned!

Cheerz,

Last Sunday (03 May 2009), I had a extremely tiring day along with extreme set of fun which made my day a simply very unique experience. I was helping MUDIKA Melbourne in Camberwell Market selling “unwanted stuffs” we had collected over the past 1 month to raise money for MUDIKA activities.

The fun itself was actually began a day before the d-day where some of MUDIKA member’s were gathered and sorted the stuffs. We were allowed to pre-buy the stuffs if we feel we like the stuffs. The stuffs I’m talking about here can be anything, from clothes to shoes, from jacket to even mirrors. Yeah, there were heaps and heaps of unwanted items. I am actually looking for some winter clothes but unfortunately I didn’t find one there but I did find a very nice looking tie (brand new but unwanted). The price is? Can you guys guess? It was 5 dollar AUD for 8 ties, and I am too lazy dividing the number but all I can tell is it’s way too cheap, isn’t that crazy? This scenario is the one that is going to happen in market the very next day.

The market opens around 05.00AM every Sunday and we were planning to get there around this time. I slept around 10.30PM on Saturday which is extremely early for me and woke up around 3.00 AM on Sunday. I was trying to sleep for another hour but I could’nt as a result I got a little dizzy the whole morning. Around 5AM we gathered in 139 which is currently known as MUDIKA’s headquarter and we moved the packed stuffs to the cars. I was in the last car heading to Camberwell Market and the rest were setting up the tables already. We unpacked the boxes, set the stuffs on racks, on the table, and on the floor. So, there’s gonna be 3 categories of stuffs we were selling; 5 dollars on the racks, 2 dollars on the table, and 1 dollars on the floors.

It was as expected that the whole morning wouldn’t be that busy but we still had some customers buying over some stuffs. Around 10AM, the customers were about triple than the one we had in the morning. It was very crowded very busy. I was selling over a dollar stuffs in front of our tables such as ties, shoes, dolls, etc. And say ” a dollar stuff” out loud has made me one of the sellers in the Victoria Market (well, they are saying “A dollar kilo” near the closing).

Around 11.30 which was 45 minutes to closing, we were no longer selling the left over stuffs but we were selling “a plastic bag” for “2 dollars”. Can you even imagine? A plastic bag for 2 dollars and you should be thinking the one who buys this kinda of bag are simply “stupid people”. But, if you are thinking this way then you are simply ‘WRONG”. The one who bought our plastic bags probably the most smartest people ever for that whole Sunday becoz with the plastic bag they bought from us they can fill the bag with any items left on our store. Yes, as many as they could fill it up and I kept saying that whole closing time “You can take the monitor on your bag as well if you could take it”. How crazy that was and probably we were the only one on that market who were selling “a plastic bag”. The price was even further reduced to “a dollar plastic bag” 15 minutes prior to the closing.

When writing this post, I think what I did back on last Sunday was very crazy. We were selling “a plastic bag” for 2 dollars and a dollar after that. The market was closed at 1.30PM.

Shouting almost the whole morning has made me kinda lost my voices. But for me, it was worth it becoz I got a very unique experience that I probably will not forget about. I don’t exactly know how much we had collected from the market but I am very sure that everyone there was having a great time even the customers who happen to just passing by were having their great time seeing bunch of people saying “a dollar stuff” for their items.

It was an extremely very tiring day but extreme fun as well. This concludes my experience for last Sunday (3 May 2009) and this Sunday (10 May 2009) is the Mother’s day here in Australia and I’ll be calling my Mom the very morning. Around noon, I’ll be having a mass blood donation along with other MUDIKA members, hopefully I can share more experience from my upcoming weekends.

PS:

The complete write-up on Camberwell Market is also available on MUDIKA website and it has a video as well.

Cheerzzzz,,
