· Losing Interest, Struggling, and Going Up again ·
As you guys already know, I am now back on blogging as the internet connection is set up already. As I said in the previous entry, I found quiet a lot of problems here in Melbourne starting from the very first day I arrived till today. These problems however makes me feeling that learning or studying here @RMIT is not that fun anymore, just like I did back in high school or in BiNus University. Apart from the problems that occur recently, I somehow feel that I’ve chosen the wrong major which supposedly to be the main reason for me to lose all interests I said previously. I’ve discussed a lil’ bit of this ‘losing interest’ kinda thing from the previous entry but this one will definitely describe how I really feel about this.
Recent Problem
This really bothers me a lot like almost everyday, Internet Connection. I have posted once (a year ago I suppose) that I cannot live without internet unless I am traveling on holiday trip. Guess what, the internet services provided by My Telecom on my apartment probably the worst I got so far in my life. A year ago back in Indonesia, I subscribed to a wireless service (it’s called RT-RW connection) hosted by a group of people (which I myself not sure who they really are). At that time, the connection was totally sucks, however the good point is the IIX connection (local Indonesia Internet Exchange if I am not mistaken) is extremely fast though it wasn’t that stable. The downlink connection could hit up to 200KB/s, the downloading from local storage such as GudangUpload or Indowebster wouldn’t be a major problem.
The service however was shut down because the lease of the tower was over. Then I subscribed to speedy which is far better than the previous one and also very stable, but the cost is kinda overpricing. I finally subscribed to fastnet service simply because it’s cheaper and the speed is higher. So far I can say that fastnet service is the best I ever had regardless the fact the speed of RMIT campus connection is so superb. The downlink connection for international can hit up to 1MBps pure while the local can hit 4MBps pure (pure simply means: per person per computer regardless how many people connect to the service). This is yet the best I have so far. Looking at services I have described, I can simply say that My Telecom service is not so much different with the wireless connection I have subscribed a year ago. It simply SUCKS. Every now and then I got disconnected. How come I do a research with such an internet connection? I can’t even googling.
Probably, some of you are wondering why the internet services means so much to me. First reason is because Microsoft creates Windows Live Messenger (WLM) which acts simply as a bridge for me to keep in touch with my friends. I spent a lot of time chatting on MSN and I simply can’t live without WLM (I don’t know if this will change later in the future and probably it just will). Second reason is becoz they have created Google search engine which simply makes my life a lot easier to search every single any-thing in this whole world; Facebook and Friendster again to keep me in touch with my friends; Yahoo!Mail, Gmail, and Hotmail which is simply magic coz you can send anything to anywhere around the world. A year ago, I was dreaming that once I have moved to Melbourne I could have a superb internet connection with extremely high speed, and people keep telling me such a ‘lie’. Now I know. The thing is for me (it’s always about me and you may not agree with me) there is no such thing as very fast internet services in Melbourne, It’s BULLSHIT and a total myth. Fastnet can simply do a lot better and by the day Telkom releases the ADSL 2+ services, it will be going crazy.
Wrong Choice of Major
I don’t know whether I have chosen the correct major, one that really suits my interest and hobby. I don’t realize it so much the major I took will be involving so much analytic thinking on design especially about images and stuffs. Thing is I can’t read meanings from images I see and I meet in everyday life. Moreover I don’t have that much ‘creativity’ it needs in this course. But luckily I have my little sister who more or less understands about the elements in design. I consult about this design thingy with her to have my idea becomes a work of art. How lucky I am to be honest. My mom and dad doesn’t have skill in designing, they just don’t. But it happens to be that the rest of the family members has the interest in designing starting from me. However, I am now only interested in the website designing (designing bot programming whatsoever) rather than anything else. In the end, you can say I am currently struggling to have my course goes smooth and aims for HDs as well.
Thing is, I feel like I just need more time to work everything out. Probably a week break or so will do in order to gain my motivation and interest that seems to lose away starting from the beginning all over again. I never have this ‘losing interest in studying’ before, well, sometimes I have to admit that I got tired with all the ‘never ending projects and assignments’ sort to say but still it never let me down way too much. If problems are solved recently, it also definitely helps me to gain again my motivation. In the end, I suspect that all of you guys happened to have the same problem during the high school and university life. If you don’t, well, I should say that you are definitely the type of person who does not enjoy life as much as I do. In the end, I still believe that there is always a way out from such a temptation. Again, the very last thing I could do is sit back, relax, and enjoy life; either the answer will reveal by itself or we are the one who should find it out, either ways no one has the answer.
